Skin Savvy

Let’s be honest, our skin takes a beating. It is the largest organ we have, and the most underappreciated. Until it isn’t. We pick, pop, and poke, criticize, and complain about our skin. We are constantly addressing problems that we could have avoided.

Hopefully you are slathering on sunscreen year round, using a good moisturizer, washing off any makeup at the end of the day, and have developed a morning and nighttime skincare ritual. And girl, drink your water. More than you think you need. Go ahead, right now. I’m waiting.

If you are anything like me, you are also terrible at consistently doing those things. You guys, I’m the worst. (I promise I am actually stopping to chug my water right now, though. It’s right next to my spiked seltzer. I’m alternating. Don’t judge, it’s hydration.)

side note: I am totally one of those people who loves popping pimples. There. I said it. It’s so satisfying to me.

I may be terrible at keeping up with a great skin care routine, but I more than make up for that in my love and obsession with face masks. I am going to give you the goods here, folks. Years of skin mistakes, horrors, regrets, and lots of trial and error. My skin has been through it ALL. These are my five favorite masks, for every skin type, woe and worry. You’ll be feeling fresh faced in no time!

The Sleep Mask

Radial Dragon’s Blood Hyaluronic Mask has been my newest obsession. I received this in a FabFitFun box. It was love at first mask. I apply a thin layer to my skin before bed, and you would never know it was on. It slyly works it’s magic. When I wake up, my skin is hydrated, glowing, and feels so soft. It even makes any fine lines less noticeable. This is a great every day mask that is great for every skin type.

The Clarifying Mask

Skin irritation? Redness? Breaking out? Welcome to your new best friend. GlamGlow Supermud Clearing Treatment is a miracle worker. This gently exfoliating, mud mask works with your skin’s natural oils to keep your skin in balance. Pores are minimized, and your skin is left feeling calm, soft, and smooth. If there are any toxins hiding under the surface of your skin, this mighty mask will draw them out and kick them to the curb. I like to use this once a week, to keep my skin in check. I leave it on for about 20 minutes, just enough time for it to work it’s mud magic. Hands down, this is my must have mask, if you can have only one.

The Hydrating Mask

This mask is a double dose of hydration and toning, Fresh Rose Face Mask is made with real rose petals and rose water. It is oh so soothing. I am prone to getting dry skin patches from time to time. This gel like mask is cool and comforting, and it is gentle enough to sooth my skin. Draw up a bubble bath, grab a glass of rose, and pamper yourself with this luxurious mask. This mask is perfect for dry, sensitive skin.

The Age Defying Mask

Fine lines, wrinkles, and dull skin beware. Peter Thomas Roth’s Pumpkin Enzyme Mask is an enzymatic dermal resurfacing mask that will tackle dull, aging skin, and breathe life back in. This mask works by exfoliating with pumpkin enzyme, peeling with alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) and polishing with aluminum oxide crystals. What that means is that it is helping to fight signs of aging in three powerful ways, and it delivers. Fair warning, because this mask contains AHA it can increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Leave this mask on for 3-5 minutes, working it into your skin in a gentle, circular motion. Go ahead, get that younger looking skin!

The Eye Mask

I’m a sucker for a good eye mask. I advocate and urge everyone to use them before any important event, or to just give yourself an extra boost of confidence. The Blaq Activated Charcoal Eye Mask with Hydrogel is the quick fix eye treatment you’ve been dreaming of. Under eye bags, puffiness and dark circles are no match for this antiaging, depuffing treatment. They are so versatile and easy to use. Place them under your eyes while you do your hair, change your outfit 17 times, paint your nails, or pregmae with a bottle of bubbly. Or, throw them on in the morning to look good as new. Heck, do both! I recommend leaving these eye patch treatments on for at least 20 minutes.
