Dryer Brush
Dryer Brushes. In the past year I have noticed an increase in client curiosity. Thank you social media ads! I’m sure you’ve all seen various brands of blow dry brushes popping up all over your feeds. To be completely honest, I had never used one, was extremely wary, and hesitant due to the potential catastrophe of a product like this. Anything that claims to be a miracle hair tool sends my stylist-spidey-sense tingling. However, these products are out there, and my clients are asking, so I did some investigating, ordered a few, tried them out, and formed my professional opinion.
Dryer brushes promise to be an all in one tool. They plug in, are approximately 1000watts, and have multiple control settings (low, medium, high) like a typical blow dryer. You can hop out of the shower, hair soaking wet, and have dry, styled hair in 10-15 minutes. The brushes are ventilated, allowing for air flow to dry your hair. The product claims to reduce drying time, smooth, de-frizz, add volume and shine, and generally make your life easier. As a professional blow-dryer, who loathes having to blow dry my own hair, I have to admit, I was intrigued. I decided to purchase three price points, and was completely shocked when they arrived. At first glance, each of these products look exactly the same. Looks can be deceiving.
Revlon Salon One-Step
When researching, I found that the favorite brand out there is the Revlon Dryer Brush This also happens to be one of the “higher” price points that I’m going to review. One of my clients swears by this particular brand, having purchased a much more expensive one and hating it. She returned to the Revlon Dryer Brush.
PROS:
This brush is slightly larger than the other two I purchased. It has more boar bristles than the other two, which gives it the win for smoothing. This brush is light, easy to use and doesn’t overheat. It packed a ton of volume and style. Four year warranty. Blow Dry & Style total time: 7 minutes.
CONS:
It is fairly loud. That’s honestly my only complaint.
Worth it?
YES. I was all in after using this just once. My hair was smooth, frizz free, styled in record time. I’m a believer. Get yours here.
One Step Hair Dryer And Styler
The One Step is my medium price point styler. It is slightly smaller than the Revlon version. It has a pretty even ratio of bristle combination.
PROS:
I love that this comes in adorable colors. I opted for a teal styler. The brush was well ventilated, lightweight, and easy to use. Blow Dry & Style Total Time: 9 minutes.
CONS:
Although I do like this styler overall, I didn’t feel it made my hair quite as smooth as the Revlon. I do not think it is the correct choice for coarse, thick hair.
Worth It?
Yes, if you are a fine/thinner haired gal. You can’t go wrong with the price. It does work, but I don’t think it is the correct choice for thicker hair or for hair with texture. Pick your favorite color and snag yours here.
Beautimeter
This is my lowest price point product. The Beautimeter hot air styler is a copy cat look of my favorite ionic brushes. I was very excited to use this one.
PROS:
Extremely lightweight. Combination bristles. Reduced static. Exceptional price point. Blow Dry & Style Total Time: 9 minutes.
CONS:
I did not feel it reduced frizz as much as the other two stylers. The ceramic barrel was significantly hotter to the touch. Not for thicker/coarse hair.
Worth It?
I’m going to give this one a cautionary maybe. My biggest concern was the temperature of the barrel, I worry about the longevity of use, and potential damage. So I’ll say yes if you are not overusing, and keep it set to medium. Grab yours here.
Overall I am pleasantly surprised with these products. My 11 year old daughter was even able to use it on her super long, curly hair with ease.
PRO TIP
Always use product to protect your hair from heat. I used LiftME and GlossME. Overdirect the sections to get added volume. And as an added bonus, I’m a huge fan of wearing eye masks while blow drying. These are my favs. You can grab a pack of them here.
